Risk Taking Mission and Outreach
Crop Walk
Mark your calendar (before it’s filled up!): The annual
CROP Walk for Hunger is set for September 30 with registration and
check-in at 1:00 p.m.
Let’s have a BIG turn-out of High Street Church walkers this
year! Watch for more information!
Care Boxes For Soldiers
If you would like to help the High Street Stephen Ministers send
items to our soldiers serving in Iraq, there are tags on the
Begging Bush outside the church office for items needed. Please
take a tag today!
Stamps & Soup Labels
Be sure to save the used stamps from your old envelopes and save
your Campbell’s Soup labels.
The stamps are collected, trimmed by Nell Carr, and then are given
to missions, which sell them by the pound to raise funds for mission
work. The same is with the soup labels.
Your stamps and labels can be brought to the church office, or
there are large jars on the table near the Parlor and Garden Court
in which you may place your stamps and labels!
Risk-Taking Mission
Mid-year of 2005, Covenant Partners Ministries began a penny-collecting
campaign. In less than a year, over $750 was collected to be utilized
by outreach programs of the church. Church members decided to send
$200 of their penny money, along with all the profits of a carnival
held October 1, to Mississippi. Their total contribution of $985 purchased
Christmas gifts for over 100 children displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
In our efforts to reach out to the members of our neighboring church,
they are experiencing the joy of reaching out to others in this community
and beyond.
Penny collection canisters are available at the Welcome Center. Of
course, silver coins and bills are accepted as well! Monies may be
dropped off in the church office, marked for Covenant Partners. For
more information, contact Mary Ruble at 789-6160.
Prayer Ministry
If you would like to be a part of the telephone and/or e-mail prayer
chain ministry, please contact the church office at 747-8500 or send
an e-mail to Lori Gibson at rebelnomo@sbcglobal.net You will receive
a list of congregational Joys and Concerns each week to remember in
prayers.
Childrens Clothing Center
This center benefits low-income children in the Muncie school district.
Collections are taken weekly to the Childrens Clothing Center.
To donate, place clean, gently used items of clothing in the collection
box near Parish Hall. Monetary donations are also welcomed to purchase
new underwear for the children.
The Begging Bush
We have items that are needed throughout the year for our children,
youth, preschool, adults, etc. Those wanted/needed items are listed
on a card and the card is placed on the tree outside the church office.
You may take a card with a need, purchase the item, and then return
the card and item to the church office by the time designated on the
card. Sometimes the Bush is very full of needs, at other times it
is empty. Just take a look occasionally and see how you might help.
For information, call Karen Siefert at 747-8500.
Food Pantry
The High Street Food Pantry offers groceries and food to the needy
in the community. The food pantry is open Mondays and Tuesdays from
1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and referrals through Christian Ministries are
required. Contact the church office, 747-8500, if you would like to
help with the Food Pantry. Donations of non-perishable food items
may be left in the church office or in either of the wicker baskets,
available at the north door entrance and in the Narthex.
Samaritan Fund
The Samaritan Fund was established so that High Street UMC could be
of assistance to people of the community with emergency needs. The
Samaritan Fund is used to pay for prescriptions, rent, or utility
bills for those who have a temporary need. The people meet with a
volunteer counselor who determines how much the Fund can pay. Vouchers
are given to take to local pharmacies to cover the cost of medicines;
and checks are issued to utility companies or landlords for partial
rent payments. Cash is not given to those requesting assistance. Your
donations to the Samaritan Fund allow High Street Church to help the
least of these. |
