Economic Opportunity through High Street Church

Children's Clothing Center
This center benefits low-income children in the Muncie school district. Collections are taken weekly to the Children's Clothing Center. To donate, place clean, new or gently used items of clothing in the collection box near Parish Hall. Monetary donations are also welcomed to purchase new underwear for the children.

Christian Ministries
This agency works with 85 area Christian groups to provide emergency assistance and services to the poor.  High Street Church supports Christian Ministries through financial gifts as well as volunteer service with projects such as the Sleeping Room and CROP Walk.

Joy in the Harvest, Tanzania
This mission is dedicated to making disciples of Christ by providing resources, expertise, and hope to the residents of Tanzania in Africa.  High Street Church supports the work of Lowell and Claudia Wertz, the missionary family that directs this global ministry.  Efforts are underway to schedule a work team to visit and serve in Tanzania in 2010.

Muncie Mission
This agency has served the poor and homeless in East Central Indiana for over 75 years. They aim to provide basic needs and teach life skills in a Christian environment.  High Street Church supports this center through sharing of financial gifts, participation in the center's yearly fundraiser and adovcacy event "Walk A Mile in My Shoes," and hands-on service with various projects at the facility.

One Great Hour of Sharing
Through this yearly offering, High Street Church joins with churches around the world to support ministries of economic opportunity and renewal developed by the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).  UMCOR is consistently one of the first responders in natural disasters and catastrophes.  These funds not only enable the United Methodist Church to be one of first on the scene, but they help the church to remain as a long term agent of change.

Samaritan Fund
The Samaritan Fund was established so that High Street UMC could be of assistance to people of the community with emergency needs. The Samaritan Fund is used to pay for prescriptions, rent, or utility bills for those who have a temporary need. The people meet with a volunteer counselor who determines how much the Fund can pay. Vouchers are given to take to local pharmacies to cover the cost of medicines; and checks are issued to utility companies or landlords for partial rent payments. Cash is not given to those requesting assistance. Your donations to the Samaritan Fund allow High Street Church to help the least of these.

Rebuilding Together Delaware County
In an effort to provide safe and healthy homes for everyone, this agency offers repairs to the homes of low-income residents.  They work with the elderly and impoverished to maintain affordable homes and to rebuild the community.  High Street Church has participated in many home rebuild projects in the Muncie area.
