OLDER ADULT MINISTRIES
High Street UMC is known as an advocate for the elderly in our community. Each year, there are approximately 1,000 folks whose lives are enriched, assisted, enlivened, and touched by these varied ministries and programs. The outreach programs of Thursday Luncheon, Update Learning, SHIP and Elder-Law counseling involve men and women from several counties. Members who are "retirement" age are active in nearly every ministry of the church, and those who are unable to be active are loved and supported through caring ministries. For information about any of these ministries and programs, contact Pastor Charlotte.
Thursday Luncheon
More than 100 folks representing over 30 different churches gather each Thursday at 11:30 in Parish Hall. A meal, fellowship, and a program are provided for a mere $3.50. Reservations are due by Tuesday afternoon through the church office, 747-8500. On the first Thursday of each month, volunteer nurses provide blood pressure checks. The volunteers who cook, serve and clean up are older adults who choose to serve in this way.
