Come Home to High Street
Our Mission:
The United Methodist Church is a global denomination that opens hearts, opens minds, and opens doors through active engagement with our world. The mission of The United
Methodist Church, and all United Methodist churches, is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. This emphasis on what Wesley referred to as "practical divinity" has continued to be a hallmark of United Methodism today.
Here at High Street, we believe that true, restorative transformation comes out of community. We are taught, through the Trinity, that community is paramount to life. By placing our faith in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we are invited into this community. As such, we live into each other’s lives, building out and shaping our community around us. From our Food Pantry to our Sunday morning worship service, we are inviting all people to join into our community and live into the transformative power of the triune God.
Our Vision:
High Street United Methodist Church nurtures disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in our local communities and in worldwide connections.
This is a slight adaptation of the new Vision Statement for the United Methodist Church as a whole. Beginning in 2021, the Council of Bishops and the Connectional Table journeyed together in prayerful collaboration, seeking God’s wisdom to discern a hope-filled vision for an unfolding era in The United Methodist Church. “Sankofa” – a West African concept of remembering where we’ve come from in order to move forward – guided the work.
We, too, intend to draw from the rich heritage of High Street, drawing from our past strengths, even as we move forward.
Disciples of Jesus who love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously are people whose lives, work, and relationships become more fully aligned with with the work of God's reign which overcomes the powers of this world. Or, in the words of Charles Wesley and the commendation of the newly baptized in the United Methodist baptismal covenant, this vision statement aims to help "perfect us in love."
